Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Golf, music and premium hospitality will come together this Saturday, September 26, as Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo hosts its inaugural Captain’s Putter tournament, bringing together golfers, business executives and lifestyle enthusiasts.
The tournament, hosted by club captain Jimmy Mugerwa, who also chairs the Uganda Breweries Limited Board, will feature a social experience organised by Johnnie Walker’s Blue Club, extending the day’s activities beyond the golf course.
Mugerwa is scheduled to tee off at midday on Hole Three, marking the start of the tournament with a whisky toast.
The hole, known for its tight layout, dogleg design and strategically positioned water hazards, is expected to provide an early challenge for participating golfers.
Mugerwa, says that the tournament is as much about bringing people together as it is about competition.
“I am very excited to be the first captain to host the Captain’s Putter at Lake Victoria Serena. We are looking forward to a great day on the course, but also to creating an experience that goes beyond the golf. This is the first edition and we want everyone who joins us to leave with great memories of the day”.

The tournament will introduce a Blue Club experience at the traditional 19th hole, where golfers usually gather after completing their rounds.
For the first time at the event, the club will take over the post-tournament social activities, bringing together guests for music, hospitality and networking.
The arrangement reflects the growing social dimension of golf, where tournaments increasingly provide opportunities for professional networking, entertainment and lifestyle experiences alongside sporting competition.
Mugerwa, who is also a Blue Club patron, is expected to host fellow golfers, members of Uganda’s business community and other invited guests.
Johnnie Walker East Africa Brand Manager Christine Kyokunda said the partnership was intended to recognise Mugerwa’s contribution to golf and his role in bringing together people from different professional and social backgrounds.
“Jimmy is someone who has achieved a lot, both in business and in his contribution to the communities and spaces he is part of. Yet, true to the Johnnie Walker spirit, he continues to Keep Walking”.

The Blue Club brings together members through business, lifestyle and social experiences, with the Captain’s Putter providing another setting for its activities.
Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director Theo Van Rooyen said preparations had been completed for the tournament, with the resort expecting a day that combines competitive golf with entertainment.
“The course is ready for the golfers. The team has been working to ensure that everything is in place to give participants a great experience from the moment they arrive until they leave”.
