Kampala, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT  |  The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will have to pay UGX72 million to enter a team in the 2021 CECAFA Challenge Cup.

Auka Gacheo, the Executive Director of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) told URN that a decision was made during a meeting on March 11th that each member pays US$20,000 (UGX72,000) to participate in the Challenge Cup.

The CECAFA members during a meeting held at the Sofitel Hotel in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday made it clear that the money will help the secretariat for operational and logistical work to run the tournament well.

Justus Mugisha, FUFA’s 1st Vice President who attended the meeting told URN that paying this money will not be a problem if the region is to organize a successful tournament. “Payment of this money is very welcome because at the end of the days it will be used to organize out own tournament,” said Mugisha.

CECAFA members decided that the 2021 Challenge Cup to be played by U-23 players like the Olympic Model will take place in Ethiopia.

The CECAFA tournament in 2021 for the senior category will be staged between June and August when the different national leagues are on a break and during school holidays for the age group categories.

Uganda will only host the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Challenge Cup in the 2021 season, while other tournaments will be hosted by Djibouti, Tanzania and Kenya.
