Former MP Odit dies of pneumonia

Kampala, Uganda | Julius Odeke| The former eighth Member of Parliament for Erute North in Lango Hon. John Odit is dead. The late Odit shall be highly remembered for his immense role in unearthing the dirt in NSSF that led to the resignation of Chandia Jamwa.

He was one of the few decent politicians and able debaters in the 8th Parliament.


Odit battled a stroke for seven months at Kampala International Hospital. However, he was then transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital where he contracted pneumonia and died on Friday November 9.

The former Erute North Member of Parliament and Uganda Peoples Congress strongman Odit represented Erute North Constituency, Lira District in the 6th, 7th and 8th Parliament.

Odit chaired the Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises committee which handled the infamous Tamangalo and National Social Security Services land scandal among others.

He previously chaired the Agriculture Committee. He shortly served as the Secretary General of UPC before he fell out with the Olara Otunnu’s administration.
