First Masaba cultural leader passes on

Late Wamimbi

Mbale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The first leader of the Masaba cultural institution, also first LC5 chairperson of Mbale district, Wamimbi Weyasa is dead.

According to Stephen Masiga, the spokesperson of Masaba Culture institution, Wamimbi died yesterday at 8.pm from Kirudu hospital located at Kampala Capital City.

He says that late Wamimbi has been battling unwell for last one year.

Masiga adds that as Masaba cultural institution they have lost a very important unreplaced leaders.

The PRO also says that during the era of Wamimbi as cultural leader, he respected the constitution by reigning for only 5 unlike the late Bob Mushikori who went beyond 5 years term and attempted to amend the constitution to rule for life.

He says that as Masaba cultural institution through prime minister Charlies Peke, they have written to ministry of gender and social development for government to grant him a state funeral as per the law.

The late  Wamimbi was born in the 1930th and is estimated to have died at 84 years.

He first worked at Sheraton hotel as board member then later became teacher at Nabumli high school, and in 1992 he contested for the Mbale district LC5 chair and won.

After serving as Mbale district LC5 chairperson for six years, president Museveni appointed him as ambassador to Canada in 1998.

Later in 2010 he served as first cultural leader of Masaba culture institution for five years after which he retired until the time he died yesterday.
