Kampala, Uganda | NEWS CORRESPONDENT | Ugandan animal-health company ERAM Uganda Limited is set to receive regional recognition for its contribution to veterinary care and the livestock sector at the 6th Edition of the East Africa Brand Quality Awards, scheduled for October 16, 2026.
Vice President Jessica Alupo is expected to grace the ceremony at Hotel Africana in Kampala, where Uganda’s ERAM will be recognised as the Platinum Winner of the Best Veterinary Company award in East Africa.
The Quality Seal of Excellence marks a significant milestone for the company, which has spent more than three decades supplying veterinary pharmaceuticals, vaccines, equipment and supplements to farmers and veterinary professionals across Uganda.
The recognition comes as Uganda seeks to strengthen its agricultural value chains, improve livestock productivity and expand the role of local enterprises in supplying quality products to regional markets.
For ERAM, the award represents an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of a homegrown animal-health business and position its products, expertise and manufacturing operations for wider regional and international markets.
The East Africa Brand Quality Awards recognition follows the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations in October 2025, when it marked three decades of serving Uganda’s livestock sector and unveiled its new headquarters.
The award organisers say the Quality Seal of Excellence recognises businesses that demonstrate commitment to quality, reliability, innovation, sustainability, customer care and operational excellence.
History of ERAM
Founded in 1995 by veterinary professionals Edward Muhigirwa and Dr Alice Hope Banga, ERAM began as a small business in Kampala’s Container Village, driven by the need to make quality animal-health products more accessible to farmers.
Over the years, the company has grown into an integrated animal-health business serving farmers, veterinary practitioners and other players in Uganda’s livestock sector.
Its operations now include headquarters at ERAM House on Hoima Road in Bakuli and a manufacturing plant in Lugazi, reflecting its gradual expansion from distribution and wholesale into local manufacturing.
ERAM Managing Director Edward Muhigirwa said the regional recognition would strengthen the company’s confidence as it pursues its growth ambitions.
“This recognition is a powerful affirmation of what Ugandan enterprise can achieve when quality, resilience, innovation and service remain at the heart of business,” Muhigirwa said.
He added that the company had worked alongside Uganda’s farmers for 30 years and viewed the award as an opportunity to demonstrate that products made and developed in Uganda could compete on quality in regional and international markets.
How ERAM was nominated
ERAM was nominated by the public before undergoing assessment by an expert panel. The evaluation considered several areas, including product quality, affordability, customer care, operational effectiveness, technology adoption, economic sustainability and community contribution.
Beyond the recognition itself, the award is expected to create opportunities for winners to showcase their brands to international markets, build business-to-business networks and explore investment, trade and market-expansion opportunities across East and Southern Africa.
For Uganda’s livestock sector, the growth of local animal-health companies is important in improving access to veterinary products and supporting farmers who depend on healthy animals for household incomes, food security and commercial production.
ERAM’s expanding manufacturing role also reflects the potential for Ugandan businesses to develop domestic production capabilities while building the quality standards needed to compete beyond the country’s borders.
30th anniversary
During the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Minister of State for Animal Industry Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama commended ERAM’s contribution to the livestock sector and challenged agricultural manufacturers to maintain high quality standards, embrace technology and invest in environmentally sustainable production.
He also urged the company to deepen investment in research, local manufacturing and the development of the next generation of veterinary professionals.
As the awards ceremony approaches, ERAM’s recognition places the spotlight on the contribution of local enterprises to veterinary care, livestock development and Uganda’s ambitions to grow its manufacturing base.
With Vice President Alupo expected to attend as Guest of Honour, the event will provide a platform to celebrate business excellence while highlighting the role of quality-driven Ugandan companies in creating opportunities for farmers and strengthening the wider agricultural economy.
