Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Nkumba central division authorities in Katabi town council in Entebbe municipality have smoked out four coronavirus suspects who had escaped from various quarantine centers.

The leaders acted on a tip off from residents who reported that some people who had just returned from United Arab Emirates-UAE were hiding inside a single room in Katabi town council.

The suspects had escaped from various quarantine centers and refused to go for testing at New Mulago, Naguru or Entebbe Regional Referral Hospitals.

Peter Mbonye, one of the residents noted that the four individuals were unknown to the neighborhood and hardly came out of the house which raised their suspicion.

A team of Nkumba central division officials led by Abbey Ssebowa, a local council chairperson made an impromptu visit to the house on Monday afternoon and smoked out the suspects.

However, Ssebowa wondered how the suspects escaped from the quarantine centers unnoticed despite police deployment.

Ssebowa explained that one of the suspects escaped from Mulago Hospital quarantine center and presents with coronavirus like symptoms such as coughing.

Ssebowa has urged residents to remain vigilant and report such cases to local authorities, police and Health Ministry officials so as to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The 4 suspects were taken to Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital for institutional quarantine. Close to 800 people are in institutional quarantine while 1,000 are under self-quarantine in various places across the country.
