Lira, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Justice Vincent Emmy Mubago has directed Post Bank Uganda, Lira branch to produce the financial statement of Linda Agnes Auma, the Lira District Woman MP within three days.

The directive stems from a petition by Bonny Aliro challenging Auma’s election as Lira Woman Member of Parliament in the January 14th, 2021 polls.

In his petition, Aliro contends that the Electoral Commission erroneously nominated Auma for the election because she had not resigned from her position as Amuru Resident District Commissioner. He also claims that Auma lacks valid academic papers for the position of MP.

Through his lawyer Joe Adoko, Aliro asked Justice Vincent Emmy Mubago to direct Post Bank Uganda to provide Auma’s bank statement covering the period between July 2020 to February 2021 for inspection to confirm whether she reimbursed all the money she received as RDC.

Justice Vincent Emmy Mubago granted the prayers in his ruling and directed Post Bank Uganda to avail Auma’s financial statement.

Speaking shortly after the court session, Auma welcomed the ruling saying the information from the bank will be to her advantage because it will prove that she refunded the money back to the government.

Francis Omoding, the Post Bank Lira branch manager said they will comply with the court orders. “Banks must honour any letter from the court so if directed to the bank, then the bank has to honour,” he said. The matter will resume on August 23rd, 2021.
