EAC sends former Tanzania President Kikwete to observe Kenya Elections

Arusha, Tanzania | THE INDEPENDENT | The East African Community (EAC) has this morning launched the  Election Observation Mission (EAC-EOM) to the 2022 General Election in Kenya.

The mission will be led by former president of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete. The team comprising of about 50 observers from EAC partner states arrived in Nairobi today, and will work to 12th August 2022 to observe the elections.

They will start by assessing the level of preparedness of the key electoral stakeholders for this election and monitor the level of compliance of the electoral processes and management to the international, regional and national established laws, principles and practices.

The team’s other assignment will also be assessing adherence to the democratic principles of the EAC as enshrined in the Treaty and finally offer objective recommendations for continuous improvement for the conduct of such elections.
