Dr Kasibule is new President of Uganda Veterinary Association

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Dr Daniel Kasibule from Mpigi has been elected the new President of the Uganda Veterinary Association (UVA) for the 2021-23 term.

Dr Daniel Kasibule, who has been Vice-President and is the District veterinary officer Mpigi District, takes over from Dr Baluka Syliva who served two terms from 2017.

At the elections held on March 31, 2021, Dr Kasibule got 46 votes against Dr Richard Kirigwajo’s 31 in the elections held physically and virtually at the College of Veterinary Medicine Animal Resources and Biosecurity (COVAB) in Kampala.

“Farming in Uganda and the world around us is changing, technology is advancing, and consumers want different products we need to embrace the trends and what is changing, so that we can be ‘ahead of the curve’ and give our clients the best advice through strong leadership,” Dr Kasibule said before he was elected.

” We are a relatively small profession, our critical and far-reaching roles in animal health, welfare and public health mean that we are uniquely placed to offer the Government evidence-based and informed advice, and policy recommendations,” said the new UVA president.

Senior members of the fraternity who attended the AGM included Prof Majalija, Dr Bumusoniwe,  Dr Abed Bwanika Abed and Dr Guma Williams. Abed Bwanika was elected a committee member.

Dr Juliet Sentumbwe Ag Director Animal Resources in the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries also attended.

The belated AGM was supposed to have come in December, but like all activities, was affected the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AGM was also addressed by the Principal (COVAB) Prof John David Kabasa.

Dr Emmanuel Emodu , chairman of Vet Wealth SACCO Executive was among those who attended.

“We wish to congratulate all the members upon successful campaign and subsequent election to various positions within UVA. At Vet Wealth we are ready to work with the new Executive on our common goal: improve the livelihoods of the vets and para-vets in this country,” Emodu said.

The battle for the Vice presidency had Dr Generous Behabura edge Dr Ivan Kisakye, new General Secretary Dr Boniface Obbo edged Dr Abu Mayanja

Elected Deputy General Secretary was Dr Geoffrey Mukama, who edge Dr Ouma Joseph, treasurer Dr Ben Ssenkeera edged Dr Asiimwe Ismail, DeputyTreasurer had Dr Asiimwe Carol unopposed.
Committee members elected wer Dr. Abed Bwanika, Dr Maureen Mayanja and Dr Bameka Ronald, edging out Dr Kyagulanyi Brian.

The UVA executive immediately urged members to plan, budget for 2021 and lobby for resource allocations in order to mark world veterinary day (last Saturday of April every year), and the World rabies ( day 28/09 every year).
