DPP to launch manual on illicit trade

By Julius Businge

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions will tomorrow (Jan. 29) launch the first ever Prosecutor’s Manual on Illicit Trade in Uganda.

The launch will be held at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo starting at 8:30 am.

Observers say the manual is timely as the country is facing grave effects of   illicit trade like consumption of substandard goods, tax evasion through smuggling, and unlawful use of narcotics among others.

The manual will guide and provide relevant insights for prosecutors and investigators and other stake holders on prosecution of various cases of illicit trade.

It will also help to speed up the prosecution process.

The ceremony which will also be a renewed pledge by stake holders to step up efforts against illicit trade will be officiated by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs- Kahinda Otafiire and will be attended by various representatives from the business community, the Uganda Police, the Uganda Revenue Authority, the legal fraternity, the media among other participants.
