Uganda Amateur Open Golf Championships 2022

🏌️‍♂️Amateur Open Sept 19-22

💠Venue: Lake Victoria Serena

Kigo, Uganda | LOUIS JADWONG & PHILLIP CORRY  | All eyes will be on defending champion Joseph ‘Joe’ Cwinya-ai  when the 81st Uganda Amateur Open tees off at 8.00am Wednesday at the picturesque Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa course just outside Kampala.

The four-day 72 hole Amateur Open is Ugandan golf’s most prestigious title. This year’s event that has Tusker Malt Lager as lead sponsor, has again come a few days after the Ladies Open that was won by Uganda’s Martha Babirye, and a week before the professional Open. (FULL DRAW BOTTOM)

This year’s prestigious Uganda Golf Union event is also a World Amateur Golf Ranking event and returns to Kigo for the the second time after they last hosted in 2019. The timing this year that has clashed with Kenya Amateur Stroke Play Championships in Vipingo Ridge this week, means foreign entries will be limited.

Other notable golfers who will be vying to win and join a roster of greats include Mehta Golf Club’s Godfrey Nsubuga together with Bagalana Ibra Burgzy from Uganda Golf Club while Kinyara’s Joe Kasozi will be another to watch out for.

Another potential title candidate, Kenya based Alunga Michael, will skip this year’s event as he is chasing for points at the Kenya Amateur Stroke Play Championships. Alunga is ranked third in the Golfer Of the Year Race In Kenya.

The Kenya Stroke Play Championships is a major event for the Kenya Amateurs as they chase points with the Top Six qualifying for the Magical Kenya Open next year which is a European Tour Event

The greatest name in the history of the Uganda golf open is Sadi Onito,(RIP) who won the Uganda Open a record 12 times.
