Cultural integration boosts security- General Mbadi

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Embracing cultural values across the East Africa member states will boost security the region’s security, Lt. Gen. Wilson Mbadi, the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces has observed.

According to Mbadi, once respective member states appreciates each other’s cultural values, they can easily work together to secure the region and beyond.

While presiding over the 2020 Cultural gala at the Jinja based Senior Command and Staff College-SCSC over the weekend, Mbadi said that all cultures have some similarities, adding that people ought to seek what unites them to ensure sustainable unity.

He noted that culture has a way of uniting different societies irrespective of their geographical locations.

Mbadi also noted that the region suffers from multiple security challenges, which can only be addressed when states decide to embrace their cultures for peace related reasons.

Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti, the Commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College noted that culture creates cohesion among nations and serves as a great boost to the attainment of the Pan-Africanism spirit throughout the whole continent.

SCSC organizes a cultural gala annually where students from different countries exhibit their cultures through traditional foods, clothing, dances and storytelling among others.

This year’s gala drew students from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa, Burundi, and South Sudan.
