Court orders UCU to pay its wrongly expelled students

Uganda Christian University

Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Mukono High Court Judge Margret Mutonyi Wednesday ordered Uganda Christian University to pay 20 million shillings to two law students it unlawfully expelled two years back.

Simon Ssemuwemba and Yasin Ssentumbwe dragged the university to Court in April 2016, accusing the University of expelling them for fueling a strike among fellow students, while in protest of the university’s administration tuition fees increment.

Justice Mutonyi ruled that they were condemned unheard and therefore the university should compensate them with 10 million shillings each, re- instate them to complete their law course, and no disciplinary action should be taken against them.
