Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  | The Democratic Party National Executive Committee- NEC was on Thursday marred by confusion.

The party organized the meeting at their new home in Mengo on Balintuma road to discuss among others the party roadmap ahead of the 2021 elections.

Earlier the DP Secretary-General Gerald Siranda said that the meeting would start at 10 am. However, only three NEC members had arrived at the venue. These were Alex Chesang the NEC representative for Sebei sub-region, Grace Paska Ogwang from Lango sub Region and Fred Oyonga from Teso.

NEC is comprised of over 35 members including four Deputy Presidents, 16 regional representatives, the secretary and the Deputy, National Chairman and the deputy, three members of the National Youth leader, three members of the Women League among others.

About 30 minutes later about five more members including the DP National treasurer who is also the Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka Municipality Mary Babirye Kabanda also arrived.

Members later learnt there was an on-going meeting of the DP Block to which Kabanda was being invited but she declined saying the only meeting she knew about was the NEC meeting.

DP Block is an alliance comprising of the Democratic Party, People’s Development Party-PDP and the Social Democratic Party.

One member who preferred anonymity said that that there was an on-going meeting somewhere else where DP members including the Secretary-General were part of. The member, however, said DP NEC members would come soon for the meeting to kick off.

At around 11:20 am, the President General of DP Nobert Mao arrived and called the meeting to order about 15 minutes later.

Barely 20 minutes into the meeting, Mao, Kabanda and a few other members walked out of the meeting and drove away, leaving only seven NEC members in the room.

DP had scheduled to have their NEC meeting yesterday but it was postponed to today Thursday for reasons still unknown to us.
