Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda police are investigating a Chinese man that was found in possession of forged documents indicating he is the Uganda Airlines’ official agent in Beijing.

The Chinese man, whose identity was withheld, had with him several documents police believe are forged government letters including one from Foreign Minister Gen Jeje Odong.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed he has been detained at Entebbe police ( file no. Ebb CRB 1275/2021) over attempts to defraud Uganda Airlines.

“We arrested him after we got a complain from the Airlines. Our personnel trace in in Entebbe. We are going to investigate after which we shall take him to courst of law where he will be charged with forgery and fraud,” Owoyesigire told the media.

Oweyesire confirmed the man had in their possession fake letters of authorization purportedly from Uganda Airlines allowing his company called Beijing Gendui Gengdui International Travel Agency Co ltd to act as Uganda Airlines official sales agents in China.

Other reports indicate the man is a proprietor of Sunmaker Energy (Uganda) co. Ltd in Bugolobi, Kampala Uganda and as also a partner for Beijing Gendui Gengdui International Travel agency Co.Ltd in Beijing China.

According to Uganda Airlines Public Relations Manager Shakira Rahim, the man was known to only have sought an introductory letter on behalf Beijing Gendui Gengdui International Travel Agency Co.Ltd, that he could take to his business partners and the China Aviation Authority to show that he was in negotiations for private charter services.

It is said that after getting the introductory letter from the airlines company, the Chinese man and a Ugandan counterpart  reportedly went and altered it by changing the subject matter from “Introduction letter to ‘authorization’, which they wished to portray as giving them rights to handle all the ground and flight services for Uganda Airlines in China.

The Chinese man had positioned himself as the legally contracted agent to handle the airline on behalf of Beijing Gendui in Uganda, which Uganda Airlines Public Relations Manager Shakira Rahim said, is false.
