CECAFA FINAL: Express FC battles Malawi’s Bullets

Dar es Salaam | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Premier League champions Express FC will face guest side and Malawi giants Nyasa Big Bullets FC in the final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup tonight.

The final to be witnessed by the CAF Secretary General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba and other Member Association Presidents including FUFA’s Moses Hassim Magogo will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe who was in Tanzania on a short visit had been expected to grace the final, but flew out of the country to attend to other urgent work.

To reach the final, Express FC defeated KMKM SC (Zanzibar) 2-1 at the semi final stage, while Nyasa Big Bullets won 4-2 in penalty shootouts after a 2-2 draw against Tanzania’s Azam FC.

Wasswa Bbosa, the Express FC head coach said ahead of the final that his team is well prepared for the battle. “We have been improving in every game and I hope we do the same in the final. We know what to do because we played against the same team in the group,” added Bbosa.

Express FC who were on Friday drawn against Sudan’s El Merreikh in the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League will look to on form players Muzamiru Mutyaba and Eric Kambale to lead from the front.

But Bullets coach Peter Mponda has warned that they should not be written off because they are unbeaten in the tournament and have what it takes to win. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw in the group stage.   But before the final, Zanzibar’s KMKM SC will face Azam FC (Tanzania) in a playoff to decide who finishes third.

The tournament sponsored by Azam TV and the cash prize by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame will see the winner pocket Shs105 million (US$30000), while the runners up takes Shs70 million (US$20000), and the third placed team Shs35 million (US$10000).
