Bugoye health centre III experiencing low supply of ARVs as patient numbers soar

Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Bugoye health centre III in Kasese district is struggling with an acute shortage of anti-retroviral supplies.

Jimmy Muzigiti, the health assistant in-charge of public health at the facility attributes the shortage of the drugs to the high number of new patients that have opted to receive drugs from the facility during the lockdown.

Muzigiti says that since the ban on public transport was announced, patients from Bugoye sub-county and surrounding areas that were getting their refills from far health facilities had no option but flock the facility.

He says that the facility receives at least 10 new patients per week.

Muzigiti says that in order not to affect the routine of the old clients, the facility sometimes is forced to first keep drugs for them before it attends to the new clients.

He wants the ministry of health to acknowledge the current status quo and increase on the ARV deliveries.

Yusuf Masitura from Rukoki sub county who has been receiving drugs from the facility since 2017 says the reduction of the dosage means visiting the facility each month.

Bugoye health centre III serves over five sub-counties in Kasese district.
