Besigye, Lukwago arrested

By Aloysious Kasoma

Police has detained former FDC leader Kizza Besigye and City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Saturday over the refusal to obey lawful orders issued by Police.

The two were arrested and detained at Kiira police station and Kira Road Police station respectively though police says Lukwago applied to assemble but the Police turned down his request.

Last week, Besigye and members of the pressure group known as For God and My Country (4GC) held a press conference in Kampala and announced to take part in the cleaning exercise initiated by Kampala City Yange every last Saturday of the month which police declared illegal saying attending the group’s activities tantamount to unlawful society.

According Vicent Ssekate the Deputy Police Spokesperson the two attempted to unlawfully assemble and carry out riotous demonstrations, under the banned 4GC group.

Police say they received intelligence reports to the effect that the outlawed 4GC was intent on unlawfully assembling today. Police in turn did issue an order and press release, on 24/1/2013, reminding all concerned that this assembly would be illegal.

Besigye was picked from his Kasangati home early Saturday morning and taken to Kira police and Lukwago was being held at Kiira Road police station.

4GC has broken three months of silence since they rebranded from A4C (Action for Change) which was protesting against high fuel prices with walk to work campaign.

The Political pressure group For God and my Country (4GC) announced yet another series of activities with effect from this week.
