Aol names new Shadow Cabinet

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Leader of Opposition-LOP, Betty Aol Ochan has named a new Shadow Cabinet, which includes two new positions. She announced the changes during the plenary session chaired by Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah on Thursday afternoon, saying the changes take immediate effect.

The new shadow cabinet comes months after several ministers abandoned their seats on the front bench when Aol took office as the new LOP. She replaced Winnie Kiiza, the Kasese Woman Member of parliament who was dropped by the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party President, Patrick Amuriat Oboi on August 3rd, 2018.

The shadow cabinet is comprised of legislators from different opposition political parties.

New Entrants

The new entrants to the Shadow Cabinet include Uganda People’s Congress-UPC Party and Erute South MP, Jonathan Odur who is the Shadow Public Service and Presidency Minister, Bernard Atiku, an independent and Ayivu County MP is Shadow Defense and Veterans Affairs Minister while Joshua Anywarach, another independent and Padyere County MP is the Shadow Human Rights Minister, DPs and Nakaseke South MP, Luttamaguzi Semakula is Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Rukungiri Woman MP (FDC), Betty Muzanira is Local Government Minister and Lira Woman MP (UPC) Joy Atim Ongom is Shadow Minister for Special Regions Affairs.

New Positions

Kato Lubwama, the Rubaga South and Kampala Central Muhammad Nsereko take the newly created positions of Shadow Minister for Culture and Performing Arts and Security respectively.

Maintain Positions

Awol has also maintained several incumbent Shadow ministers in their positions. Those maintained include Ndorwa East MP (Indep) Wilfred Niwagaba as Shadow Attorney General, Busiro East MP (DP) Medard Lubega Sseggona as Justice and Constitutional Affairs Shadow Minister, Kilak North MP (FDC) Anthony Akol for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Amuru Woman MP (FDC) Akello Lucy for Gender, Labour and Social Development, National Youth Representative (Indep) Anne Adeke Ebaju for Youth and Children Affairs and others.

Others are Kabweri County MP (FDC), Francis Gonahasa Barnabas for Agriculture, Tochi County MO (DP), Peter Okot for Animal Industry and Fisheries, Masaka Municipality MP (DP), Mathias Mpuuga for Education and Sports, Makindye West MP (DP), Allan Ssewanyana for Sports and Creative Arts, Butambala County MP (DP), Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi for Internal Affairs, Bukonjo West MP (FDC), Godfrey Atkins Katusabe for Foreign and Regional Affairs, Mityana Municipality MP (Indep), Francis Zaake for East African Community (EAC) and others.

The others are Busongora North MP (FDC), William Nzoghu for Works and Transport, Kapelebyong County MP (Indep), Julius Ochen for Health, Nwoya County MP (FDC) Simon Oyet for Energy and Minerals, Bungokho North (FDC) Rabbi Gershom Sizomu for Rehabilitation, Relief and Disaster Management, Jonam County MP (FDC) Ongiertho Emmanuel Jor for Cooperatives, Maracha County MP (FDC) Denis Oguzu Lee for Science, Innovation and Communication Technology and Bukoto East MP (DP) Florence Namayanja for Water and Environment.

Switch Positions

Mukono Municipality MP (DP), Betty Nambooze Bakireke moves from the position of Shadow Local Government Minister to Shadow Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Communication. Erute North MP (FDC), Charles Angiro Gutumoi is now Shadow Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities. He has previously been Shadow Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

Makindye East MP (FDC) Ibrahim Kasozi is now Shadow Minister for Physical Planning and has previously been serving as Shadow Minister for Trade and Industry. The Rujumbura County MP (FDC) Fred Turyamuhweza takes over as the Physical Planning Shadow Minister.

Dropped

Those dropped from the Shadow Cabinet are the Kilak South MP (FDC) Gilbert Olanya who has been the Defense, Security and Veterans Affairs Minister, Soroti Municipality MP (FDC), Herbert Edmund Ariko has also been dropped from the position of Shadow Public Service and Presidency Minister. Also dropped are Rubaga North MP (Indep), Moses Kasibante from the position of Human Rights, Nakawa MP (FDC) Micheal Kabaziguruka, Kampala Capital City Authority and Kasese Municipality MP (FDC) , Robert Centenary Franco (Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities).
