All set for the Equity Bank Diaspora Webinar this weekend

Prof Nuwagaba

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Equity Bank Uganda has announced an Equity Diaspora Webinar scheduled for Saturday, 1 August 2026, aimed at unlocking the investment potential of Ugandans living abroad.

The virtual event will feature Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda (BOU), as the keynote speaker to discuss transitioning diaspora wealth from basic consumption remittances into sustainable economic drivers.

The webinar, themed around moving diaspora wealth beyond remittances to fuel business growth and national transformation, reflects the financial institution’s growing focus on cross-border banking being pushed by Equity Group.

The forum ( Register here: shorturl.at/VKA8A) will address structural frameworks for secure, long term capital deployment within East Africa.

Equity Bank Uganda has over the years positioned itself as a leading institution for Ugandans abroad, recently sweeping multiple global accolades at the diaspora banking awards.

In May, Equity Bank Uganda was named Corporate Business of the Year at the prestigious African Business Chamber (AfBC) African Business Awards 2026, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to financial inclusion, diaspora banking, cross-border trade, and investment facilitation across Africa.

The award was presented during a high-profile gala dinner held on 29 May 2026 at The Royal Lancaster London, bringing together more than 300 global policymakers, business leaders, institutional investors, entrepreneurs, and members of the African diaspora to celebrate organizations and individuals shaping Africa’s economic future.

Organized by the African Business Chamber (AfBC), the United Kingdom’s leading organization dedicated to strengthening commercial ties, trade diplomacy, and investment between Africa, the UK, and the global African diaspora, the awards recognize institutions that are driving sustainable economic growth and creating meaningful impact across the continent.

The recognition underscores Equity Bank Uganda’s growing role as a financial bridge connecting Ugandans living abroad with investment opportunities back home, while supporting businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities through innovative banking solutions that facilitate economic participation across borders.

With an estimated three million Ugandans living abroad contributing significantly to the national economy, the upcoming engagement with the central bank’s leadership underscores a coordinated push to seamlessly blend secure digital finance with national wealth creation.
