Accountants latest exam results show decline in performance

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The accounting profession is not easy but requires attention and concentration for one to perform well. This is the message that Geoffrey Byamugisha, the chairperson of the Public Accountants Examinations Board delivered while releasing exam results for the September died in Kampala on Oct. 04.

“PAEB has noted unimpressive performance in the core/computational/ analytical subjects including Integration of Knowledge, owing to among others, gaps in interpretation, computation, communication and analytical skills,” he said.

A total of 3,555 candidates registered for the September 2022 examinations – and 94.7% (or 3,367) turned up for the examinations. The results showed a drop in the average pass rate from 39.6% in the March diet to 35.8% in September. This compares favorably with similar diets in the past, that is, 93.8% in March 2022, 94.1% in March 2021, 93.6% in August 2019, 93.9% in August 2018, 93.3% in August 2017 and 95.7% in August 2016.
