Aisha Namalishe; Caterer

By the Indepenent Team

Aisha Namalishe studied Catering and Hotel Management after which she was employed by a catering firm in Kampala.  She desperately needed that experience from the field after grasping the basics in class. Two years later, she felt that she had gathered enough experience to fly off on her own.  Being a good cook with exceptional organizational skills is all she needed plus a Shs 5 million in start up capital from her father.  She started out from her parent’s house kitchen to avoid costs of rent while employing two fresh graduates from the same institution.  Her marketing strategy was letting relatives and friends know about her services. Quickly, the clientele base grew to include corporate companies and NGOs. Her company has now expanded to serve upcountry contracts; both short-term and semi-permanent involving both accommodation and camp management.

Success tips; quality and customized services

Namalishe says understanding the clients’ needs and whims are very key to achieving success in the catering business. “A caterer must ensure that what clients ask for they ask is doable and reflects well on your business and this is achieved through practice and attention,” she says. The good name acquired from quality services will in no time spread to other potential clients.
