UPDATES WITH VOTE COUNT STOPPED IN MISSOURI

Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton scored big wins in Tuesday’s presidential primaries, helping to consolidate their frontrunner status in the 2016 White House race.

The win in Florida for Trump sent rival Marco Rubio, the US senator from the Sunshine State, crashing out of the campaign. The 69-year-old billionaire also won in Illinois and North Carolina.

Clinton was victorious in Florida, Ohio, Illinois and North Carolina, while Ohio’s Republican Governor John Kasich won in his home state.

The contest in Missouri was still too close to call.

As of 0643 GMT Wednesday state officials said that — in unofficial results — Clinton and Trump were ahead in their respective races by less than 2,000 votes.

CNN reported that vote counting had ceased until the morning, and that under state law a recount can be ordered with such close results.
