Mohammed Hamid, head of Aya Group in Kampala, is facing accusations of sexual assault by one of his former employees, Jacinta Odongo, a logistics officer. Odongo was dismissed from the hotel last year.
Odongo in her account, said Hamid, the boss of Aya Group of Companies started allegedly sexually abusing her in 2015, weeks after she got the job at the hotel but she feared reporting him to the police for her job security.
Eventually she took the matter to Old Kampala Police Station and within days, the Minister of State for Labour Herbert Kabafunzaki intervened in the matter. However there was a dramatic twist when Kabafunzaki was arrested by security operatives at Kampala Serena Hotel allegedly taking a bribe from the Aya bosses.
Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye said the arrest of the minister would not divert the police from conducting investigations of sexual assault brought against the tycoon.
