THIS WEEK: Hilton Boss sex assault case back to police
A case file in which Aya Group Chairman Hamid Mohammed Mohammed is accused of sexually assaulting a female employee at his Hilton Hotel has been sent back to police for further investigation. According to Jane Kajuga, the Spokesperson of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), evidence on the file was too weak to support prosecuting the accused.
This case came into the limelight earlier in the year when a local TV broke the story where an employee accused Hamid of molesting her whenever he called her to his office in the guise of inquiring about work. The issue gained more public interest when State Minister for Labor, Herbert Kabafunzaki was caught on camera soliciting for a bribe from the business man in order to clear him of the allegations. The minister has since been suspended and is currently battling a case in the anti-corruption court.
