Kampala, Uganda | NTV UGANDA | Retired Maj. Edward Rurangaranga, a former national chairman of the Uganda People’s Congress Party has died at the age of 85 years.

He collapsed and died in the wee hours from his home in Kitagata, Sheema district. He was one of the founders of UPC in 1959. Rurangaranga was the right-hand man of the former President Milton Obote.

He served as minister in the office of the President in Obote’s government. Regarded as one of the liberators, he was under target by the late Idi Amin’s government.

He fled to exile in Kenya where he lived from 1972 to 1979. He returned in 1979 when Amin’s government was toppled. He was a trained teacher and Agriculturist.
