THIS WEEK: Roofings plants 300 Trees in Namanve Park

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Roofings Rolling Mills, steel manufacturing giant in Uganda, has planted 300 trees around Namanve Industrial Plant in efforts aimed at environmental conservation.

Under its Forever Forestry initiative that started seven years ago, staff of Roofings with spades, trucks of loam soil in tow, and water cans planted trees led by their Executive Director Oliver Lalani and Chairman Sikander Lalani. “Forever Forestry is about making Uganda green again.

It’s a seedling project where we have a capacity of over 20,000 seedlings at a given time,” says Oliver. Roofings has also been conducting trainings and workshops especially in areas of harvesting honey. The company has a model farm where other farming projects take place as well.

According to Nashila Lalani, another director at Roofings, sustainable environment as a policy has also been introduced at a nearby primary school the company adopted a few years ago. “We have given the parents and their children seedlings, they are growing their own crops and vegetables.”
