President meets KCCA Councillors over petition

President Yoweri Museveni has met a section of KCCA Councilor-elects over their grievances following a constitutional court petition seeking to eliminate councilors, divisional mayor-elects and members of par elect from the Capital City.

During the meeting, the President advised the Kampala Capital City Authority councilors to remain calm since their participation in the recently concluded elections was clearly spelt out by the Electoral Commission.

He promised to follow up the matter with the relevant government agencies to understand the problem and issues involved and urged them to respect the court processes.

The President was meeting 275 KCCA councilors from the five divisions of Kampala namely Central, Nakawa, Makindye, Rubaga and Kawempe.

 “You as councilors should not worry at all because it’s not your role to interpret what the law stipulates,” the President said.

The President’s meeting with the Councilor-elects follows a court petition by a one Mulindwa Muwonge questioning the existence of various political offices at the Authority.

The President called upon the Councilor-elects not to be misled by wrong elements and not to listen to the members of the opposition groups who move around inciting the public to participate in strikes that are not genuine to cause confusion. He advised them to instead respect the court process and await its out come.
