Nairobi, Kenya | AFP | Kenya’s Supreme Court today declared the results of last month’s presidential poll “invalid, null and void” and ordered the election be re-run within 60 days.

“The presidential election held on August 8 was not conducted in accordance with the constitution,” said Chief Justice David Maraga, ruling in favour of the opposition which challenged the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner.

Maraga said this was a majority decision, with two judges dissenting.

The shock ruling was a rare example of a poll result being overturned, with Maraga saying the election commission (IEBC) “failed, neglected or refused to conduct the presidential election in a manner consistent with the dictates of the constitution”.

He validated opposition leader Raila Odinga’s argument that there had been “irregularities and illegalities”, notably in the transmission of election results.

Maraga said this had compromised the “integrity of the entire presidential election”.

All IEBC commissioners are bound to go to jail for the rest of their lives. For standing for the truth David Maraga and his team have set the country free. Thank you

  3. Its a great news to show the independence of the judiciary. Its now up to the citizens to maintain this type of civilisation by putting their trust in democracy and the rule of law. More importantly to maintain peace. Do not kill your bothers and sisters we are now civilised.

  9. It is time that other countries emulate what has been done by the supreme court of kenya. This decision proves that Kenya has grown in terms of democracy. Not even united states can now brag to be a democratic nation especially considering the aftermath revelation of USSR hacking on their elections.

-John Kerry and other international observers were fooled by the Kenyan machinery who were put in place by the incumbent government to make sure they dance to their tunes. its so unfortunate that an international figure like J.Kerry can be downplayed like this.
indeed kenya is no a banana republic.

    • We should not forget thanking President Uhuru Kenyatta for accepting court’s verdict. He has shown to be mature and well educated and also by reminding people that they are all Kenyans despite their political differences. I personally though I am a Malawian not a Kenyan but as African true son thank you very much. It’s a dream I have everyday that politics in Africa should be like this. I am very proud of you Mr President elect
