Kasese MPs blocked from Mumbere home

Robert Centenary, Winnie Kiiza and William Nzoghu

Legislators from Kasese district were blocked by police from accessing the home of their king, Charles Wesley Mumbere in Muyenga, Kampala.

MPs including Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza (Kasese Woman), Robert Centenary (Kasese Municipality), Harold Muhindo (Bukonzo East), William Nzoghu (Busongora North) had gone to visit the Omusinga only to be turned away by army and police officers. Kiiza condemned the security officers for turning the king’s home into a detention centre and wondered what could happen to ordinary citizens if Mumbere’s rights could be violated like that. Police Spokesperson Felix Kaweesi said movements around the king’s palace were a security concern.

  1. Those blocking these MPs are indirectly decampaigning Museveni. Mumbere is a free person entitled to receive guests; why block his guests from reaching him? Doesn’t such action simply give a bad name to the government without achieving anything positive?
