Gen. Aronda Nyakairima new Internal Affairs Minister as Museveni reshuffles Cabinet

By Ronald Musoke

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday (May 23) made new changes to his cabinet with the biggest surprise being the appointment of Gen. Aronda Nyakairima as the new Internal Affairs Minister.

Nyakairima who has been the Chief of Defence Forces has replaced Hillary Onek who has been moved to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees. Onek replaces the late Dr. Stephen Mallinga who passed away last month.

However, President Museveni did not fill the gap left by Eriya Kategeya, the former first deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East Africa who also passed away in March.

In other new changes, Mary Karooro Okurut is the new Minister for Gender while her predecessor, John Nasasira moves to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

In turn, Ruhakana who has been occupying that position has been moved to the Ministry of Health. The outgoing minister, Christine Ondoa is the new presidential advisor on Health.

Rose Namayanja who has been the state minister for Luweero Triangle has replaced Karooro-Okurut as the Information and National Guidance Minister.

Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, who has been serving as the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development is the new minister of general duties in the Prime Minister’s Office.

What a surprise, so Hillary Onek was simply warming the chair for Aronda. Like born with a silver spoon in his mouth;  how so easy for Gen Aronda to have been decommissioned from the UPDF, over a night, and to become a fully fledged politician with a full Cabinet Ministerial post.
If compared to other officers who wanted voluntary retirement from UPDF: for Col Dr. Besigye to have been decommissioned, it was a life and death effort. But for Brig. Tumukunde and Gen Sejusa to get out of the UPDF, it will be life time sentence, they can as well forget.

Wrong Info. correct its Prof. Kabwegyere has been in that portofoli and the Gender ministry was headed by Eng. John Nasasira….

Can someone tell me if it is true that Betty Bigombe (the Acholi seller) has been dropped out as state minister. Ugandans should know that Rwakitura can not accommodate every one of us. Meaning, when that time comes he/she has to go where he/she comes from if he/she is still alive. If I were Amuru resident I would send her a card to let her know that she is more of Acholi than a Muhima (Munyankore).

Kyamadidi’s Bugamba will alrways have no Minister is the He doesn’t change the tone. God forbid. By election time we thought he had signed a memorandam of understanding. Any way the Kinyankore saying stands ‘EBIBAGAMBA NIBANYUNKA TIBYO BAGAMBA NIBATAHA’ meaning The nice words used while looking for some thing are not the same words one uses when his target is already hit. Munywani wangye You went to defend the movement ideology stand to it or quit the movement.
