Eriya Kategaya is dead

By the Independent Team

Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Hon Eriya Kategaya has passed away.

Early this year in January Kategaya was admitted in Nairobi Hospital and reports from doctors and family said he was improving and responding well to medication.

Kategaya, 67, has been a long-time friend of president Museveni with their relationship dating back as far as their childhood.

A Lawyer by profession with a degree from the University of Dar-es-Salaam he was considered by many as the number two after president Museveni.

He has been in active politics since the late 1970’s and was part of  Museveni’s Front for National Salvation (FRONASA), a group that helped topple Idi Amin in 1979.

Details concerning the cause of his death are yet to be confirmed.

More details to follow …….

Condolences to the family. He contributed to the the ugandan cause. Athough he is remembered as a betrayer to democracy when he returned to serve Museveni……even after disagreement on the country’s governance! Serving in the regime he had discredited till his death is an indicator of a man who couldnot be trusted by his word………..a trait of his boss Museveni whom he had criticised!
