1.5 billion spent on by-elections so far

While teachers can’t earn a descent salary, huge sums of money are being sacrificed at the altar of the electoral commission’s negligence.

About shs1.5b of tax payers money has so far been spent on the by elections that would have been avoided if we had an efficient electoral body in place.

About 10 elections have been nullified and it seems more are soon t follow suit because of the irregularities and the massive rigging by which they were characterised during the Feb. 2011 general elections.

While the electoral body was appearing before the legal and parliamentary affairs committee, it revealed that it has spent shs1.48b on the six bye lections that have been conducted so far.

Three more are still pending and high court doesn’t seem to get tired of nullifying many more. Who know how much government will have spent by the time this whole EC mess is sorted.
