Crane bank has dismissed media allegations as untrue reports that it stole money belonging to its customer, Ibrahim Bagaya.

On July 5 Bagaya stormed the bank’s headquarters in Kampala demanding Shs 800, 000 which he alleged that the bank had stolen through the ATM.

“There was a communication between the ATM at Makerere University and the host server at the headquarters on July 3 advising Bagaya to check his account later but he did not listen to that,” Ajay Kumar, the bank’s deputy managing director told a press conference at the Bank’s head office in Kampala on July 6 adding that the Shs800,000 never existed on the customer’s account and that he [customer] looked for cheap popularity.

The Bank decided to close his account and decided to take the matter to court.

Kumar admitted the possibility of ATMs breaking down but said the bank has always intervened early to solve the anomalies.

The bank does more than 30,000 transactions and handles over 30 complaints.
