Uganda’s president advised to step aside

Uganda’s President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been advised to leave office and pave way for another leader eying for the most valued position in the country.

Fred Mukasa Mbidde, the chief legal advisor of the Democratic Party told journalists at the party’s weekly briefing on Feb.21that president Museveni has overstayed in power and is no longer doing anything beneficial to the people of Uganda.

“He served well over the years and he’s doing nothing today,” Mbidde said.

Mbidde added that the current cases of corruption in the courts of law and those still pending are committed due to Museveni’s close allies who he said have selfish interests and do not care about the people.

“All those big men are close to him (Museveni) and they will continue stealing public funds because they think the president won’t punish them,” he said.

Several ministers in the current cabinet have been forced to step aside over allegations related to corruption. Several others are being investigated by parliament and other bodies.

President Museveni has been praised for causing peace and stability, growing the different sectors of the economy, and allowing freedoms of speech and expression.

However, analysts say Museveni’s achievements are being overshadowed by evil cases his ministers and his party cadres are committing.  Others have advised him to leave office for another candidate before everything is distorted.

However, on several occasions the president has mentioned that people still need him and he will serve them until they decide otherwise.

The country will be holding the next presidential elections in 2016. His close competitor Dr. Kiiza Besigye announced recently he will be stepping aside as party president and give ample time for another candidate to prepare for 2016.
