UBOS to mobilise district leaders on population census

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is organising a one day workshop for district leaders intended to prepare the officials for the 2012 National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) to kickoff in August this year, the bureau’s statement reads.

The census establishes the total population of a country and its distribution to help government plan for its population in terms of resource provision and distribution.

 

The workshop scheduled for Feb.22 at Hotel African is designed to discuss the synergies required and their application to the operationalisation of the different census 2012 community mobilisation and field operations strategies.

 

Uganda last carried out the population census in 2002.  According UBOS the Population of Uganda was 24.2 million in 2002 having increased from 2.5 million in1911 reflecting nearly a 10-fold increase over a 90-year period.

Between 1948 and 2002 the population increased from 5.0 million to 24.2 million an increase of about 5 times.

According to The State of Uganda Population Report 2011 Uganda’s total population is 34 million and the number is expected to soar to an impregnable 103.2 million by 2050.
