BOU clarifies on National Bank of Commerce

Bank of Uganda has dismissed as untrue reports that the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has been shutdown and no longer operates.

This clarification comes just after a local news paper published a story on May 21 titled; “Shut Down! Mbabazi, Rugunda lose billions as BoU shuts their bank,” in which it was reported that the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) had been closed by Bank of Uganda.

 

UCC embarks on national registration of film and video halls

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has started the registration of all video halls, video libraries and cinema halls throughout the country, the commission said on May 18.

It said that the exercise will commence on June 4, 2012 in Kampala, Luweero, Mukono and Wakiso districts and later, it will be rolled out to the rest of the country in phases.

On May 17, Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organisation (UWOCASO) launched a study on the perceptions of cancer at a cancer disseminations workshop in Mulago Hospital Kampala. The study was conducted in the districts of Wakiso and Kampala.

UIA to host Gulf conference

Ugandan businesses are being prepped on how to clinch business partnerships and deals from the up-coming Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) conference.

The conference to take place from May 28 to 29 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel will be attended by about 100 business people from Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Oman. The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) will be hosting the event on behalf of the Uganda government.
