Prof. Mukiibi dismisses Ssebana from DP

E-mail Print PDF

The bickering in Uganda’s oldest party, Democratic Party gets interesting every other day. Yesterday Court threw out a petition filed by one of the party supporters Peter Ochieng who had petitioned it to put an injunction on the party’s delegates’ conference scheduled for tomorrow at Mbale.

Today, a party faction led by Prof.  Joseph Mukiibi has dismissed party president Ssebana Kizito, Mathias Nsubuga, and Issa Kikungwe.  Reina Kaffiire who has been the DP vice chairperson has been voted as the acting party president.

Prof. Mukiibi said the dismissal of former party officials was a result of their continued indiscipline in the party. He was not  specific  on acts of indiscipline exhibited by the officials before their dismissal.

Lack of respect for Laws and proceedures is Uganda's problem
written by Birungi Andrew, February 23, 2010
Mao and all other should have followed the party constitution and contest/get elected properly. The failure to respect the party constitution should not be entertained at all! This is what happen to Uganda in 1966 and upto now Uganda is still suffering from the same problem. Uganda now has a president who only respects the laws/constitution when they are in his favour. The same goes for the so called security forces/agencies! Ugandans need to be serious. What happen in DP is unacceptable! They have to repeat the whole process. Prof Mukiibi is very right. If the young members in DP are tired of the old guys they should vote them out. But does according to the party's constitution and proceedures! This should not have escaped Mao since he is a lawyer.
