In November, 1999, President Museveni ordered the police to arrest homosexuals after it was alleged that two gay men had wedded in a Kampala suburb. Religious leaders welcomed the president’s directive, insisting that homosexuality is not only against the biblical teachings but it goes against African culture and the laws of nature. But gay activists hit back saying that this precedent would worsen discrimination against them as a community.

Homophobia is widespread in Africa as homosexuality is considered immoral, inhuman and unnatural in African culture. But many gays and their activists argue that homosexuality is a lifestyle that needs to be respected.

For the last few weeks, local media have carried stories of Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre accusing him of sodomising seven young men from his congregation. Among those accusing Kayanja of sodomy include Samson Mukisa, James Ntwatwa, Ronny Mutebi, David Mukalazi, Akansiime and Robinson Matovu. They all claim the incident happened while they served in his church. Police are investigating the matter.

Anti-gay activists claim that homosexuality is a dysfunctional lifestyle. They argue that that if it were so, then gays would not be actively recruiting people into it. Media have lately been reporting claims by anti gay activists that homosexuals are deliberately recruiting people to become gay, especially vulnerable members of society. But gays have since denied these claims.

There exists so much hate for homosexuality in Uganda and it is being crusaded mainly by religious leaders. For example many homosexuals operate secretly and even those sodomised fear to speak out because of social stigmatisation. So, on 9th June when the rest of Ugandans were celebrating the Heroes’ day, Pentecostal pastors united against sodomy. They say that victims of homosexuality who have decided to come out publicly to fight the vice by pinning their alleged abusers are the real heroes. Pastors Solomon Male, Martin Sempa and Michael Kyazze organized the parallel function. Ironically those accused of sodomy are said to be some of the leaders of the church flock.

Frank Mugisha, chairperson of Sexual Minorities in Uganda (SMUG), accuses the anti-gay pastors of contradicting the teachings of Christianity that call for embracing all people. He said the church is supposed to be a place of worship and welcoming to diversity. “The anti gay pastors have used a wrong platform to fight homosexuality. They are silently pushing away Christians who have been struggling with their sexual orientation, and making us question the teachings of the church.”

He argues that the pastors’ stance promotes hate towards homosexuals. He adds that is unfortunate to see people who call themselves men and women of God “abuse humanity by promoting homophobia, yet they know the dangers of their actions. I always say those who know will be asked more at judgment day. The pastors know these things, they know people are born gay, unless they have no faith and are here to uphold values we do not understand. But in true Christianity they should be embracing gay people who are a minority and vulnerable to larger society just like Christ did,” Mugisha told The Independent.

The pastors who are anti-gay say they are not fighting Kayanja as a person but the vice of homosexuality he is accused of promoting. They are now demanding for his resignation as leader of the Rubaga Miracle Centre to pave way for investigations.

“We are fighting homosexuality not Kayanja. Alex Mitala as head of the Pentecostal churches should ask him to temporarily step down as this is a universal standard done all over the world when such cases arise,” said Martin Sempa.

Following a few days of interrogation of the said sodomy victims, the police CID boss, Edward Ochom, announced in a press conference that Kayanja had no case to answer. The move surprised many. Instead, he turned tables on the five pastors and the seven alleged victims of homosexuality accusing them of framing Kayanja. Since then speculation of bribery and intimidation are rife. Pastor Kayanja enjoys a close relationship with State House. He is known for his charitable work in renovating police barracks. Sometime back Kayanja renovated the Old Kampala police station and recently offered to renovate the police CID headquarters in Kibuli.  But his philanthropic offer to the police has come to scrutiny with some members of society opposing it arguing it might compromise the police in their investigations.

These pastors have since written to minister of Ethics and Integrity and the Inspector General of Police about their petition. They ask government to set up an independent commission of inquiry into sodomy allegations in the church claiming that the police have been compromised by Kayanja.  “We are hurt that people who come out to speak against abuse of young people, children are instead harassed. Every right thinking member of society should stand up and condemn this vice,” notes  Male.

President Museveni, through his press secretary, Tamale Mirundi, issued a stern warning regarding the way police was handling the investigations on the sodomy case involving Kayanja. He directed a separate inquiry into reports that some State House and other government officials are interfering with the investigations in favour of Kayanja. During the recently concluded Fire Conference organized by Kayanja, President Museveni, a close associate never attended. The savedees constitute a large support base for the NRM party when it comes to elections.

The five pastors are happy with the president’s directive but still insist on instituting an independent commission of inquiry into the matter since they doubt the competence of police to deliver thorough investigations. “Pentecostal leaders should not fear to come out loud and fight the evil spirit of homosexuality,” said Sempa, adding that, “you say you exorcise spirits but when it comes to homosexuality in church you are silent.” Some churches are sponsored by gay groups like the Other Sheep, a Christian gay organization.

It is hard to estimate the exact number of homosexuals in Uganda since they operate in secrecy partly because Ugandan laws criminalize it and strong society opposition to the practice. But Mugisha said some studies show that at least 3% of the adult Ugandans are homosexuals. The number is said to be rising and a few brave ones have come out in public to represent this community like in August 2007.

But analysts question the basis of pointing accusing fingers on one sin in society and remain silent about others such as corruption, robbery, murder, envy, fornication, issues of governance and democracy, rigging of elections, dictatorship, torture in safe houses, and extra judicial killings yet these are also salient matters affecting society today.

They are wondering why the anti-gay activists especially the pastors have not come out to speak strongly against these vices especially corruption. In fact, it is emerging that some parents, who catch their children being molested by gays, opt for money from the offender instead of reporting the matter to police. But Pr Male argues that one first cleans their house before telling how dirty their neighbour’s house is.

“Sanity and sanctity in the church is important first. Politicians will ask us where you get the moral authority to speak against corruption when the church itself is filled with filth,” Male told The Independent.

There is an ongoing debate that people are born gay and so it is their sexual orientation. This is a view held by many gays. Some people argue one is born gay and link this to the scientific theory of evolution and claim that is why the vice has not been wiped out. “People are born gay,” says Mugisha, but adds there is a difference in their sexual orientation. Some are gays (males who are attracted to males), lesbians (females attracted to females), bisexuals (people who have sexual feelings for people of their own sex or opposite sex), and transgender (for example if a person is born male but inside he feels like a woman). Transgender people are not necessarily homosexuals.

Although it is not definitely known how and why people become gay, various reasons attempt to explain this. Mugisha stated that there is a genetic factor in homosexuality in addition to the environment and one’s upbringing.

“We know that homosexuality occurs through all the cultures of man. It also occurs amongst other animals and birds. We do not know why it occurs but we know that homosexuality is part of humanity,” he admits.  Mugisha says also there are people who involve in same sexual acts as a source of income just like heterosexuals; “commercial sex workers”.

Dr Joseph Haumba, a lecturer at Makerere University’s Department of Biochemistry, told The Independent that the debate that there exist gay genes poses a challenge because of differing views. He says it hard to say that gene exists. But notes that the evolution theory would support existence of gay genes as it posits that things go on advancing so gay relationships would be taken as a high level of human evolution. However, Dr Haumba contends that “if we start interpreting everything genetically we would have problems. We would get a situation where thieves and drug addicts claiming they have narcotic or theft genes meaning that we would be disarmed in fighting the vices.” He goes on to say: “We have never seen children born to gay couples. They adopt implying their relationship is not viable for bearing unless they procreate. They orient those children into homosexuality yet genes are passed on by parents to off-springs.”

The opposition and contradictions to understand homosexuality are not new. In 1800s, psychiatrists treated homosexuality as a mental disorder. But by 1960s their opinions were divided. In 1973, the American Association of psychiatrists and psychologists removed homosexuality from the Diagnostic Statistical Manual 4 (DSM4) arguing that there was evidence that it was not a disease as the medicine never worked.

Homosexuality is said to be widely spreading in the country and rumours of deliberate recruitment are rampant. Schools, prisons and even in churches are the most targeted. “We need to fight it,” says Sempa, an anti-gay activist.

“If the homosexuals could restrict their practice to consenting adults, then maybe society would not be so angry,” said one commentator adding that “because that is not as bad as pouncing on young innocent fellows and destroying their lives.”

In places like hotels, bars and nightclubs, gays will be found curdling freely.

“Where shall we turn given that our children are now at the focus of gays?” Charles Ssemakula, a parent working with Centenary Bank, lamented. Homosexuality is a criminal offence in Uganda and is punishable by life imprisonment. The offenders may be charged under unnatural offences in section 140 of the penal code.

George Oundo, who claims to have been a homosexual and now turned an anti-gay activist, alleges gay activities are funded by the same donors funding the government. This was corroborated by Mugisha. He told The Independent that. “Our projects are funded by the very donors who fund, all other humanitarian, health, government institutes and civil society organizations in Uganda.”

He claims he was recruited into homosexuality at the age of 12 and recently abandoned the vice when he was 27 because he wants people not to go through the pain he experienced.

Mugisha says the state “sponsored” homophobia is not going to change homosexuals. “However, it is making us vulnerable to society and increases hate crimes towards vulnerable minorities, as well as limiting resources and programs to HIV/AIDS intervention and protection therefore making us the most at most risky to HIV/AIDS”.

It is amazing how the people of God have embraced Homophobia, contraly to the teachings of Jesus, and abandon the poverty stricken, hungry and disease infected members of their congregations who need practicle support and being educated in basic needs in order to improve thei lives, especialy ignorance, disease, and poverty. The same pastors are involved in distotion by taking the last penny from them through Biblical manplation. I urge the pastors to direct their energy else where and stop victimising inocent Gay people. As a Heterosexual I have no problems with another person's sexual oriantation or practice. I confirm that research in USA and Europe points in the direction of Gay people born Gay. Great Nations are judged by their level of torerance, Pasters!!! live and let Gays live..

It is unfortunate that none of understand or put into reality and action the meaning of "Golden Rule" for our any human being. Going to heaven has never been determined by any single body except Jesus. Gay or not gay does not affect or robber another person, BUt corruption in our country has robbed us through endless conflicts, war, leaving many people homeless, without education, greed does not allow sharing of jobs or evenly distribution of job. Having several s****ful persons on the streets.

Why don't we complain of important issues that can leave a future for every single younger generation rather than interfere with another persons interest? Only God can make spiritual judgment.

Religion or no religion, lets do to our brothers what you love done to you. Not forgetting that every single persons unique, including your own baby. Remembering that concentrating on problems without a solution is waste of time and efforts.

You better take the most useful words from a gay pastor and use or practice out of it to add on your knowledge or spiritual growth but not what he does privately.

Remember to recall the 'Bigger Eyes of God, the Bigger Ears" and God's mercies for each one of us.

When the time come we shall be judged by God individually, not because you have unveil the secrecy of somebody.

Gay & Lesbian Pentecostals Exist
written by Anthony Venn-Brown, July 09, 2009
in many parts of the world....there are a growing number of Pentecostal people and leaders who realise that we got if very wrong about homosexuality. Same sex orientation is not an abomination....its an orientation. therefore my morality is choice but my sexual orientation however isn't.

In the past we have shown our ignorance by using terms like "gay lifestyle", 'sexual preference" and saying that people choose to be gay. Its time to be educated and informed.

The passages of the bible that are assumed to speak about homosexuality are actually about idolatry, temple prostitution and rape...and not same sex orientation as we know it today. The word homosexual didn't even appear in the bible till 1946. One day...hopefully soon we will have to ask for forgiveness from our gay brothers and sisters and the gay community as a whole for our judgement and condemnation.

Argue as you all may, accuse Pastors as much as you want, even point fingers and blame religous leaders and those who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour< But the homosexuality is a vice. If you dont' mind take a few moments to read Romans 1: 18 - 32. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19. Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21. Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29. Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30. Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31. Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Please pay particular attention to vesres 18, 24, 26 & 27, 28 -31. God Bless you all.

here is the verse straight after the ones you've quoted.

Romans 2 verse 1
You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

I wonder why people like Mugisha - a self confessed gay cannot be apprehnded? If Mugisha confesses with impunity he is gay and he very well knows that homosexuality is an offence punishable by life imprisonment yet the strong arm of the law is not bothering to apprehend him, I shadder!. The guy should be arrested.

Thieves(the corrupt) and Homosexuals have condemed themselves(life is by choice), they, like any other sinner, need to repent lest the wrath of God will catchup with them very soon.Believers need to persuade them gently and gracefully to turn them from their delusions and path of Death to the Truth, the Way and Light of the Son of God.Sodom was destroyed because of such sins of homosexuality and others.Wisdom is calling you, come.
He who has not sinned
written by Brent, July 09, 2009
John 8:6-11 (The Message)

6-8Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger in the dirt. They kept at him, badgering him. He straightened up and said, "The sinless one among you, go first: Throw the stone." Bending down again, he wrote some more in the dirt.

9-10Hearing that, they walked away, one after another, beginning with the oldest. The woman was left alone. Jesus stood up and spoke to her. "Woman, where are they? Does no one condemn you?"

11"No one, Master."

"Neither do I," said Jesus

Matthew 7 (Amplified Bible)

Matthew 7
1DO NOT judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves.
2For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you.

3Why do you [a]stare from without at the very small particle that is in your brother's eye but do not become aware of and consider the beam [c]of timber that is in your own eye?

4Or how can you say to your brother, Let me get the tiny particle out of your eye, when there is the beam [d]of timber in your own eye?

5You hypocrite, first get the beam of timber out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the tiny particle out of your brother's eye.

African Gays - live free, and live whole
written by Andrew Jones, July 09, 2009
After reading this article I am deeply saddened by the moralistic leaven that permeates the hearts of the pastors. Unfortunately African ministers don't have a real good reputation for being above reproach. Taking a anti-gay stance is in complete contradiction of their vows to uphold love, peace, grace and mercy.

Gay Africans need everyone's support and love. They are regular people with regular lives, but they are treated like vermin - there lives are oppressed because the attitudes of too many Africans is so appalling towards them.

Their sexual orientation is not a choice but how they live their lives most definitely is!

Violent groups that seek to destroy lives always demonise their targets by focussing on the negatives and then blanketing inappropriate behaviour on everyone involved with the group. This must stop! We are talking about real people and everyone is has value.

The pastors need to stop being moralistic and start living like true men of God, humble, servants of Christ, not political puppets and fear mongers. They need to educate themselves properly on the subject of homosexuality and they need to form friendships with gay men and women.

Jesus never addressed homosexuality and I defy any African pastor to dispute this fact!

The pastors need to get their own lives in order before they condemn another to hell. Not even the great apostle Paul condemned the immoral brother in Corinth to hell for it was not his place and he had no authority. I'm sure that if an inquiry were made into their financial affairs and sexual lives one would certainly find immorality and deceit.

Remove the log from your own eyes before pointing out the speck in your brothers!!!!!!

When will these so called 'men of the cloth' become beacons of light and life? When will actually see Christ in them? Do these pastors bear the fruit of God's spirit? Is God's love in their hearts and seen by their actions?

I think not. Hypocrites!

So many do not understand the link between sexuality, personality, individuality, and a persons being.

You can't say homosexuality is a sin when there sexuality is ingrained within them from birth. Their orientation is not a choice. Living a good life is a choice. You can be gay and achieve great things in life. Gays are actively involved in the arts, government, finance, sport, education, hospitality, global corporations, business, everywhere.

I don't care what the bible says. Being gay is unnatural an that is why the law criminalises it....very harshly...life in prison. Even gays know this, that is why they hide. There is no amount of explanation especially linked to God or the bible that can justify being gay. The law is the law and must be respected.

These people should look at problems facing the society other than focusing on homosexuality or any other form of sexual orientation.
Talk of corruption, food, shelter, school for the Northern children who are droping out of school and many other.
I question Pastor Sempa's role over homosexuality. Talk of crimes in the neigbourhood and preach the gospel as Jesus did. He loved poor souls to be washed into the Spiritual holiness. He is loosing credibility because of his stance. Let him readmy words may be he can refocus on meaning ful advocacy not sexual orientation and attacking ugandans in diaspora.

Now it`s also true i do spprt ur statement: alot of pastors out there are manuplating the poor out the there livelyhood savings, keeping quiet on corruption and many more injustices instead of voicin loud their voices against such ills...

Just like they are voicing loud on gayism they should too on the other injustices..For the oppressed run to them only to be hit even harder by them...

We all shall be judged accordling on that day but dont be fooled all human being is made in God`s likeness..He aint Gay so no one is born Gay..they become like that later on ini life....
Homophobia and the church
written by Steve, July 11, 2009
The religious butters will always use their fictitious book and invisible friend to justify their own prejudices. The real shame is that Africa in still in thrall to this superstitious nonsense. Most prejudice falls away once people are allowed to think for themselves rather than being told what to think on pain of damnation by crooked bigots in dresses.
Biblical interpretation
written by Rev Amos Kasibante, July 12, 2009
In my view, proper interpretation of the Bible - for we all interpret or at least select what to stress or not stress - should take into consideration the following: (1)the Bible (2)context (3) Tradition (4) Reason. The latter includes scientific knowledge and openness to new knowledge. We cannot simply apply statements straight from the Bible to our situation. For the example the New Testament says that women should not teach/preach in the church and should just remain quiet: cultural context?

It is so annoying and embarrassing to be a witness to narrow minds and watered brains that some Ugandans have. No wonder we shall continue being called a country in the 3rd world and we happily embrace that categorization thinking that at least we are not the last in civilization. We get so happy to be put in this class because we continue getting help from the western world and we sit back and relax and enjoy our poverty not only of the financial status but even the mental poverty. reason being we dont want to read and if we try and read we take the obvious interpretation that every one gets. Why is it so hard for the self proclaimed believers to understand that that book they so much believe in and use to crucify others was made for that purpose and it confuses them the more? I mean the bible, This book attached with the religions it fronts are philosophies that one can choose to adopt or ignore, so you will see that there is a choice between choosing to believe in the bible, religion or not.

There is a saying here that if u want to get to the heart and brain of an African very fast give him food and money and hide away the books. Do u know why??? Because we dont want to read. The reason i am so much dwelling on the reading habit is simple. If we were readers then we would be learned people and not just educated that way we would be able to solve alot of riddles and do a lot of research into the non issues we are debating so foolishly here and giving irrelevant examples.

That all said the issue of homosexuality that every religious clergy man is fronting is a non issue at all. The same bible these so called men of God are using is the same bible that put the women of this world back in the kitchens for all those centuries, its the same book that was used in the apartheid era in south Africa and so may other brutal things done to man kind in reference to this controversial novel and now they are fronting it again to fight Homosexuality. No wonder its being fronted and financed by the right wing Christians fro America.

My fellow Africans open up your eyes and brains and start discussing real issues other than homosexuality which battle i n know you will never win no matter what the time because homosexuals are born by heterosexuals like you.

Okey if homosexuality is genetic, then let them teach about it openly in the church, why do they practice it in secrecy then? Dont be fooled if the Bible it true, it clearly teaches that such people, their wages is in the sea of fire and brimstone.

Homosexuals ... REPENT
written by Apostle Edward Ssewanyana, July 14, 2009
Romans 1:26-27
(26) For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
(27) And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
Leviticus 18:22
(22) Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Jude 1:7
(7) Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
GOD HATES HOMOSEXUALITY! THE PASTORS (OF WHOM I AM ONE) ARE RIGHT TO FIGHT THE VICE BECOZ GOD HATES IT. WHETHER OR NOT THE LAWS EXIST, GOD'S LAW IS THE HIGHEST AND WE SHALL ALL STAND TO BE JUDGED BY IT ON THE LAST DAY. HOMOSEXUALS, REPENT AND TURN TO JESUS. HE WILL WASH AWAY ALL YOUR SINS... INCLUDING HOMOSEXUALITY
There is too much hate and not enough love
written by Mwana Wa Taka, July 14, 2009
Its amazing how much hate, enslavement and colonisation was carried out in the name of God and the bible. And how quickly we forget when it suits us.

By the way it is not criminal to be gay, the law only specifies that it is criminal to engage in sodomy. So arresting someone for being gay is actially a non starter.

But let me pose a question: would anyone in their right mind would voluntarily choose a life that risks illegal arrest, disownment by their families, rejection by their friends and workmates, a life where one needs to tell so many lies just to be able to keep going, a life that in the end is quite a lonely one. Ask your self if one would really choose such a life if a choice was presented.
Think about it guys.

They are hypocrites, who are turning the Gospel upside down. They are corrupt so they cant preach against it. Their homophobic sermons are just to attract the government to support and donate money for them. Time has come for us to begin to speak loudly against this ministers of doom.
The Vice Of Homosexuality
written by Dunns Scotus, July 14, 2009
St. Catherine of Siena, a religious mystic of the 14th century, relays the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ about the vice against nature, sodomy, which contaminated part of the clergy in her time. Referring to sacred ministers, He says:

“They not only fail from resisting this frailty [of fallen human nature] … but do even worse as they commit the cursed sin against nature. Like the blind and stupid, having dimmed the light of their understanding, they do not recognize the disease and misery in which they find themselves. For this not only causes Me nausea, but displeases even the demons themselves, whom these miserable creatures have chosen as their lords. For Me, this sin against nature is so abominable that, for it alone, five cities were submersed, by virtue of the judgment of My Divine Justice, which could no longer bear them…. It is disagreeable to the demons, not because evil displeases them and they find pleasure in good, but because their nature is angelic and thus is repulsed upon seeing such an enormous sin being committed. It is true that it is the demon who hits the sinner with the poisoned arrow of lust, but when a man carries out such a sinful act, the demon leaves.” [St. Catherine of Siena, El diálogo, in Obras de Santa Catarina de Siena (Madrid: BAC, 1991), p. 292]

St. Bernardine of Siena, a preacher of the fifteenth century, makes an accurate psychological analysis of the consequences of the homosexual vice. The illustrious Franciscan says:

No sin has greater power over the soul than the one of cursed sodomy, which was always detested by all those who lived according to God. Such passion borders on madness. This vice disturbs the intellect, breaks an elevated and generous state of soul, drags great thoughts to petty ones, makes men pusillanimous and irascible, obstinate and hardened, servilely soft and incapable of anything. Furthermore, the will, being agitated by the insatiable drive for pleasure, no longer follows reason, but furor. Someone who lived practicing the vice of sodomy will suffer more pains in Hell than any one else, because this is the worst sin that there is. [St. Bernardine of Siena, Predica 39, in Le prediche volgari (Milan: Rizzoli, 1936), pp. 869ff., 915, in F. Bernadei, op. cit., pp. 11f]

St. John Chrysostom denounces homosexual acts as being contrary to nature. Commenting on Romans 1: 26-27, he says that the pleasures of sodomy are an unpardonable offense to nature and are doubly destructive, since they threaten the species by deviating the sexual organs away from their primary pro creative end and they sow disharmony between men and women, who no longer are inclined by physical desire to live together in peace.

This brilliant Patriarch of Constantinople employs most severe words for the vice we are analyzing. He makes this strong argument:

“All passions are dishonorable, for the soul is even more prejudiced and degraded by sin than is the body by disease; but the worst of all passions is lust between men…. The sins against nature are more difficult and less rewarding, since true pleasure is only the one according to nature. But when God abandons a man, everything is turned upside down! Therefore, not only are their passions [of the homosexuals] satanic, but their lives are diabolic….. So I say to you that these are even worse than murderers, and that it would be better to die than to live in such dishonor. A murderer only separates the soul from the body, whereas these destroy the soul inside the body….. There is nothing, absolutely nothing more mad or damaging than this perversity.” (St. John Chrysostom, In Epistulam ad Romanos IV, in J. McNeill, op. cit., pp. 89-90)

St. Augustine, the great Bishop of Hippo, while combating sodomy and similar vices, writes:

“Sins against nature, therefore, like the sin of Sodom, are abominable and deserve punishment whenever and wherever they are committed. If all nations committed them, all alike would be held guilty of the same charge in God’s law, for our Maker did not prescribe that we should use each other in this way. In fact, the relationship that we ought to have with God is itself violated when our nature, of which He is Author, is desecrated by perverted lust.”

Further on he reiterates:

“Your punishments are for sins which men commit against themselves, because, although they sin against You, they do wrong in their own souls and their malice is self-betrayed. They corrupt and pervert their own nature, which You made and for which You shaped the rules, either by making wrong use of the things which You allow, or by becoming inflamed with passion to make unnatural use of things which You do not allow” (Rom. 1:26). (St. Augustine, Confessions, Book III, chap. smilies/cool.gif

Saint Gregory the Great delves deeper into the symbolism of the fire and brimstone that God used to punish the sodomites:

“Brimstone calls to mind the foul odors of the flesh, as Sacred Scripture itself confirms when it speaks of the rain of fire and brimstone poured by the Lord upon Sodom. He had decided to punish in it the crimes of the flesh, and the very type of punishment emphasized the shame of that crime, since brimstone exhales stench and fire burns. It was, therefore, just that the sodomites, burning with perverse desires that originated from the foul odor of flesh, should perish at the same time by fire and brimstone so that through this just chastisement they might realize the evil perpetrated under the impulse of a perverse desire.” (St. Gregory the Great, Commento morale a Giobbe, XIV, 23, vol. II, p. 371, Ibid., p. 7)

St. Albert the Great gives four reasons why he considers homosexual acts as the most detestable ones. He says:

"They are born from an ardent frenzy; they are disgustingly foul; those who become addicted to them are seldom freed from that vice; they are as contagious as disease, passing quickly from one person to another." (St. Albert the Great, In Evangelium Lucae XVII, 29, in J. McNeill, op. cit., p. 95)

St. Peter Damian also writes:

"This vice strives to destroy the walls of one’s heavenly motherland and rebuild those of devastated Sodom. Indeed, it violates temperance, ****s purity, stifles chastity and annihilates virginity ... It infects, stains and pollutes everything. It leaves nothing pure, there is nothing but filth... This vice expels one from the choir of the ecclesiastical host and obliges one to join the energumens and those who work in league with the devil. It separates the soul from God and links it with the demons. Homosexuality, most pestiferous queen of the Sodomites makes those who obey her tyrannical laws repugnant to men and hateful to God ... It humiliates at church, condemns at court, defiles in secret, dishonors in public, gnaws at the person’s conscience like a worm and burns his flesh like fire..."

“The miserable flesh burns with the fire of lust, the cold intelligence trembles under the rancor of suspicion, and the unfortunate man’s heart is possessed by hellish chaos, and his pains of conscience are as great as the tortures in punishment he will suffer ... Indeed, this scourge destroys the foundations of faith, weakens the force of hope, dissipates the bonds of charity, annihilates justice, undermines fortitude, ... and dulls the edge of prudence.

“... In effect, the one whom this atrocious beast of homosexuality has swallowed down its bloody throat is prevented, by the weight of his chains, from practicing all good works and is precipitated into the very abysses of its uttermost wickedness. Thus, as soon as someone has fallen into this chasm of extreme perdition, he is exiled from the heavenly motherland, separated from the Body of Christ, confounded by the authority of the whole Church, condemned by the judgment of all the Holy Fathers, despised by men on earth, and reproved by the society of heavenly citizens. He creates for himself an earth of iron and a sky of bronze ... He cannot be happy while he lives nor have hope when he dies, because in life he is obliged to suffer the ignominy of men’s derision and later, the torment of eternal condemnation” (Liber Gomorrhianus, in PL 145, col. 159-17smilies/cool.gif.

Who in his right mind would be happy to be in such as situation, waiting as it were, to commence serving his/her sentence of eternal torments in the fires of Hell.

Moreover, even those who condone or promote homosexuality, actively or passively, as well as those who are indifferent, will all be condemned to eternal damnation. Such is the strictness and rigor of Divine justice.

John, I know many people are intimidated by Science, even if it is so obvious to the naked eyes, John you can accept Scientific findings and at the same time believe in God. As a muganda I grew up knowing that when you touch your in law Mother as a male, Father as a female you get obuko!! we now know it is not true, we also know there is no cure for AIDS/HIV, how many Pastor have ****ed people telling them not to take medication that God will cure them, forgeting that God helps those who help themselves. John it is scientific research that has saved millions of lives, we know more about genes which bring about, sickle cell annemia, alcoholism, obisity, cancer, early menopose etc, you may deny the Gay gene but Science is here to stay, and as a believer you better catch up quick, and join those who read the Bible and understand it with clear conviiction that Science can exist a long side the teachings of the Bible.

Are you really serious about Bible Interpretation Rev. Kasibante? Which Bible do you read? It is another thing to argue for fair treatment of all people but another thing to disparage the Bible as not being "applicable" so as to foster the Gay Agenda... Rev. Kasibante, I question your sincerity when it comes to the Bible.

Biblical versus Biblicism
written by Rev Amos Kasibante, July 20, 2009
Omulongo Kato said he doubts my sincerity when it comes to the Bible. Simply because I said biblical interpretation has to pay attention to Bible, Tradition, Context, and Reason? The OT for example taught that a menstruating woman is ritually unclean, that touching a corpse renders you ritually unclean, and that anyone who insults mother or father should be stoned to death. Do Christians or even Jews still subscribe to this teaching? We pick and choose, guided by a number of considerations and use particular criteria, including advances in knowledge. Jesus was not glued on to Scripture, but re-interpreted it.

Arrest them? Put them before a firing squad? Some of the suggestions, above, truly amaze and horrify me. Are these Christian voices? Is this what Jesus would do? Never.

Do you want the same for your sin -- whatever it may be? ALL have sinned. Do you want your loved ones and friends to go to prison if they don't turn you over to the police? NO! This is not the Spirit of Christ -- who came to forgive and and to redeem.

Good editorial. IRecently however ugg outlet, it's become clear that many pro football players have suffered and eventuall died from complications related brain injuries. This was being kept from the public and presumably from players. Players should know first hand what their sport can do to them.Since that glad is the master control for all your glandsugg boots, a person can have some really weird hormonal balances, not just hgh, but ANY hormone. So it's all a sticky wicket in that HGH testing isn't a test to detect cheaters that same way polygraphs don't detect lies.
