Actually, buoyant prices of commodities in Africa (what the analysts term a 'resurgence' or 'commodity revival') are the single biggest impediment to any meaningful advances towards value addition. High commodity prices kill the incentive regime to transform commodities into diversified derivative value added products. For the majority of folks, its hard to see why we are all not better off when commodities 'surge', but for a few, its easy to see that we are all worse off if we keep hemorrhaging value through being primary produce suppliers...
