Surely, Allan you are lying to your self. Iam reminding you that all the favours you have had will soon be no more. Look at it from a simple perspective, football. In no way will they field a local prayer and abandon an international player. This is Otunnu and Museveni compared. The former has a more realistic international judgement and a wider understanding of issues. The professionalised army as is taken ( remember this has been on tax payer's money) on straight ground is expected not to get above the constitution. As Ugandans we need to get awake and follow this up and with the new chance of Dr. Otunu to completely erase the likes of Allans taking our nation astray for all those decades. - DM

Uganda is nolonger a country, it is corporation owned by the first family and the extended family. Nowadays joined by the almighty minister of security Amama Mbabazi. We want our beloved motherland back and the only way to save it by encouraging people like Otunnu to come back, we have to think of ways to stop the Museveni dynasty from eroding everything that makes us proud as a nation. Mr.Otunnu will be jailed, Besigye's fabricated cases will come up again, Kigundu has tunned up his machines and already has signed the documents that 2011 elections were free and fair. Ugandans, arise and fight for your motherland - kaweza

In order to keep a society together you have to create many things to be shared by that society. That is what those who created what Museveni has sold had in mind.
After selling everything off and after seeing that there is nothing remaining to hold ugandans together, the 2 old men who cannot see beyond their greed, Museveni and Mabazi are moving around preaching Patriotism on a blackboard.
You cannot hold all Ugandans together by preaching patriotism when you have sold off everything they used to share, it wont work and in the near future we may end up like Somalia. The majority poor have nothing to lose other than lives while the few have everything to lose. - Kyakabale

People like Allan dont see beyond their noses. Do you see any future for Uganda when every trace of the name "Uganda" is be is being erased. Where is Uganda Commercial Bank, Uganda Airlines, Uganda Hotels, Uganda Transport Company? etc. How can the Government justify their failure to run government Instituttions by selling off everything. Museven and Company should have lest some institutions to carry the contry;s name. For the Ignorant ones, many countries dont make profit from operating their national Airlines but to sell their countries abroad. Instead Museven gives his son-in-law billions to sell uganda using his advertizing company.
Can you imagine how may people will ask about Uganda if they saw a Ugandan plane parked at Hethrow airport? - Kyakabale

Besigye should stand down. Whether he's a militarist or not, this guy can unseat Museveni. Infact, he has already been part of the rough and tumble of Uganda's history. Wasn't part of the coup that overthrew Obote? I vote for candidate not party and this time it will be Otunnu if he can do us a favour and he returns. - Ssemagwatala

Mr Nuwagaba,, get this right. any division in sociaty whether based on religion or race is bad.
All divisions have the same concequencies including hatred and ****ing.
We need to seek God so that he can give us leaders who can treat as all as ugandans and on merit. - Silian Turyatemb a

Challenges are the best means of learning and enables humans make changes rather than no change.

Not forgetting that causes of conflicts are disagreements, especially fulfilling personal interest and greed for power regardless whether voiceless people are loosing, suffering or being exploited, left jobless and without education for younger generations and eventually traumatized. Why are others who contributed to take over of power on 'katebe'?

Why not become presidents who gratifies commrades for their contributions, empathizes with pain innocent voiceless civilians going through.

Why not take/see excellent change of power and what is believed to be true democracy - where no GUN or threat is used during campaign and geniune giving of power to another. -

Mr Otunnu can be popular in the rest of Uganda but can gain in Buganda. I know he is formidable. We would rather have Mu& that an Otunnu in our midst. The man had a hand in Luwero. He is UPC. Direct successor to Obote and of course hates our Kingdom.
How can somebody who has failed to get married and have children manage a country like Uganda. If UPC fronts Otunnu then we will join hands behind our crocodile MU7 - test

Mainly if you look at the past,Uganda isn't meant to be ruled by Army, that's really a wrong persepective of few people who have little knowledge about our politics.Obote wasn't a soldier nor even wore army uniform but managed to control the army.it was the cheap politics of late Paul Muwanga that ruined the country.Enkwe za abaganda, that's why we will never be in power coz of our self esteem, greedy,we do not really know what we want?they will continue being under the rule of those who understand the game.look at the chaos in Mengo, just between them there's a traitor(bayuda)eating and claiming is fighting for Buganda, well nguvu ni kazi let's see where we're heading - James

The people that are responsible for introducing the army into Ugandan politics are .... wait for it ... UPC! That the heat was turned up and they could not sustain what they began is their mis-judgement.

Textbook politics can not offer a solution for Uganda in its 47th year as an independent state. Indeed, the idealism inherent in textbook politics does not offer any solutions to roadbuilding, education et al. but rather offers academic practice to students of political education.

To insinuate that the current govt is not a civillian / democratically elected government proves the bankruptcy in your arguments (read UPC). - Emperror

This is typical UPC. How do you reconcile this statement ?

"Civilization demands that an intelligent person suspends judgement and crosschecks facts to avoid repeating history"

Why on earth would you want to avoid repeating history? If indeed the saying "history is a good teacher" can be used as leverage, then Kabangala's argument here proves that UPC policy and rhetoric are hollow and used only to hoodwink the electorate. Ihave news for you, Ugandans are now wide awake. Forget the Amin awakening, this is even better! - Emperror

Kabangala, you are an educated fool (if not a big headed literate). The only reason I say this is from your quote:

"knowledge without character is worse than illiteracy".

I hope you now realise how absurd that is (if not then you can see how perfectly it describes you!). Then again, you know yourself best. - Emperror

I wonder how you can use the word "nationalists" in reference to UPC while keeping a straight face. Given, Obote (and UPC) ideals leant towards socialism, which may qualify a a sort of nationalism, however for timing you will have to agree it was a howler of a policy. In that respect, that your folk used to sweep roads on "heroes" day for them is neither here nor there.
Firstly, there was no solid policy to internally generate self sustaining wealth, and thus economic emancipation / independence.
Secondly, as M7 keeps sayig, UPC practices politics of backwardness. They never seek to earn political supremacy through policy but intimidation.
The end justifies the means ... remember that. - Emperror

I keep hearing some poor analysts saying Otuunu will have a problem convincing people in the west. This is utter rubish because the people that used to sing Nyamurunga, Kahurire, Hangara, e.t.c to Obote are not all dead yet. Even those that used to sweep roads for Obote every heroes day are still waiting for when sanity will return to Uganda and they disprove some people. Remember most of them have grown up children to confide in now. We are on ground and we know that our people prefer nationalists to divisive, gun trotting, tribalists like Museveni. If people in the west do really support M7 why then did he have to buy each voter with shs. 1000 each in the region in 2006? Yes this money was distributed to them through LCs on the eve of the election. Soon the lies of men like Emperor will ditch them . They are there writing wishes not facts. - Nuwagaba Moses

Ottunu, is a Ugandan who can come back ,participate in the mud game of politics but the roads are too many(politicians) to even find the correct one(leader). Some lessons, not threats, for him:-
1.The current generation of voters will be difficult to convince to vote you, young, commercialised(corrupted) voters.
2.Vote bartering(bar of soap, 1kg sugar, a tot of gin, "transport to the polling station" )is a norm at the eve of voting, need over 70bn/=
3.The allegations that you were a sympathiser with that murderous thug Kony(someone should catch him alive) will make many jittery, to whichever political group you align to, even in Odek village.
State house journey should not be your motivation for return rather your root. For God And My Country. - Russo

DONT PUT NEW WINE IN AN OLD WINESKIN

Without doubt Mr Olala Otunnu is a good presidential candidate the bad news is that he will be wrongly positioned. By fronting Otunnu as a presidential candidate in UPC, I think its like putting new wine in an old wine skin. - This will only weaken the already weak opposition.
Secondly, Mr Otunnu has not been in UG for so long. He isnow out of touch with the voters on the ground especially in Buganda and the the west.
The best Otunnu can do to help this country is possibly to campaign for another candidate the alliance is planning to put foward as a candidate. Then stand as an Mp and help to rejuvinate the opposition in case they do not win in 2011. - Mukalazi

I'd be very surprised if you do not subscribe to UPC; reason being, UPC thrive on mis-information and the politics of division. case at hand, M7 and NRM-O did not impose a movement transition (from the ravages of UPC leadership) govt onto Uganda, but this was Democratically voted on by the NRC and agreed on as the best way to set the stage for the recovery that you are enjoying now. You must also be aware that a timetable for the beconing call to the return to multi-party politics was agreed on then.
Now that Otunu is "threatening" to enter the race, I only pray for you perennial oppositionists because all this is going to do is fragment your vote, whether he stands on his own or in an alliance. And as usual, we expect YOU to cry foul! - Emperror

M7 fears competition that is why he plays dirty. In a free and fair competition he would loose hands down. Remember that he banned all opposition for twenty years imposing the NRM on the people of Uganda against their will. Remember how they tried to disadvantage Besigye by filing bogus charges against him as the race was heating up? Despite this he still managed to give the cheats a run for their money.
Its only fair that all candidates including M7 compete under fair conditions after all it's the people who have the right to choose.
A constitution is not worth the paper its written on if its not respected. - Akhenaten
