The Inside Story

  • How was it framed?
  • The army generals behind it
  • The Dr. Besigye’s role
  • The army’s plan for Gen. Sejusa
  • The Janet Museveni connection

Does President Yoweri Museveni have a grand plan backed by a strategy to make his son Brig. Muhoozi Keinerugaba president of Uganda? When does Museveni want Muhoozi to take over the presidency: in 2016 or 2021? There is also a real possibility that Museveni and the National Resistant Movement (NRM) may amend the Constitution to remove age limits on the presidency so that the president can run for office in 2021. So would Museveni plot for Muhoozi to succeed him in 2026, 2031 or 2036?

Uganda criticised for wildest media attack

Uganda police abused its power and the law by closing two independent newspapers and radio stations in the wildest media attack, The African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) has said.

Armed police raided and closed down The RedPepper, a tabloid, Uganda’s largest independent newspaper, The Daily Monitor, and its sister radios, KFM and Dembe FM, following reports that the President was grooming his son, Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to succeed him.

At the Namuwongo-based Monitor Publications Limited (MPL), which Preident Yoweri Museveni has in the past severally referred to as ‘that enemy paper’, police officers, some in uniform and others in plain clothes arrived in three vans, stormed and sealed off the premises.

Politics of a Langi wedding

Why UPC members are bitter over Museveni’s invite to UPC MPs Amongi – Akena’s wedding

On April 6, President Yoweri Museveni adjusted his busy schedule in Kampala and traveled to Minakulu Sub-county, Oyam District in Lango to attend a traditional wedding. For starters, President Museveni has not attended any traditional weddings in Lango before, leave alone being the chief guest.

But even more remarkable was the fact that though Museveni has historically fought and lambasted the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), both the bride and groom are active UPC legislators. Jimmy James Akena, the groom, is a son to the UPC founder and former President Milton Obote, while the bride was none other than Betty Amongi Ongom, who is also the chairperson of Uganda Women Parliamentarians Association (UWOPA).

A combination of internal and external factors poses serious challenges for the new budget

Only weeks to her third budget, Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka has a lot of scratching of the head to do in an attempt to find a way of funding her planned Shs 12 trillion budget.

Requests by Education and Defence for more money only complicates matters more as it might mean cutting from other sectors or finding alternative sources. In a situation where the contribution from development partners has declined to a trickle, Kiwanuka is left with no option but to introduce new taxes or increase tax rates.

DPP, Police row: A legal perspective

Email Print PDF

While most of the public have been mostly interested in the sensational non-legal elements of the story, the deepening rift between the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Police should be a matter of grave public concern. Whichever way it is resolved, it has far-reaching legal implications.

The dispute hinges on the prosecutorial powers of the DPP, the investigative role and powers of the Police and the latest being the role and powers of the Attorney General in criminal matters.
