Ugandans began the New Year with a scarcity of petrol, a situation that is bound to continue as no remedy has been found. The one year old scarcity is getting worse by the day and petrol is closing in to Shs 6,000 in upcountry towns while in Kampala, a Shs 3300 price has been asked at some stations. Like always, the latest excuse is the pipeline repairs in Kenya. Meanwhile world oil prices are heading south into the $30`s per barrel.
The Chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association James Kalema last week appealed to the government to urgently solve the fuel crisis to save industries from collapse.
He advised the government to fill up the empty fuel reserve tanks in Jinja as a shield against future supply fluctuations.
