Private sector launches Proudly Ugandan campaign

The Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), an umbrella body for private sector players, has teamed up with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Uganda Manufacturers Association to launch the Proudly Ugandan Club in an effort to increase the consumption of products and services produced in Uganda. Security Minister Muruuli Mukasa flagged off the effort in Kampala on October 21, which officials said would mobilize Ugandans to buy quality Ugandan products instead of imported ones, in a bid to spur the national economy and create employment to Ugandans.

He said there was no need to buy foreign products yet they are also manufactured in Uganda. He said government is working closely with UNBS and other organs to check on the influx of counterfeit products to Uganda.   The other objectives of the campaign, according to Gideon Badagawa, the PSFU executive director, are to enhance sustainable production, competitiveness and raising the profile of locally manufactured goods and services.
