MTN Mobile links with DStv

MutiChoice and MTN Uganda last week went into an agreement which will enable DStv customers renew their subscription using the MTN mobile money. Announcing the deal, the MTN Uganda chief marketing officer Isaac Nsereko said the innovation extends the convenience of MTN mobile money usage to payment for such vital services as pay TV. DStv subscribers will be required to obtain MTN mobile money accounts to be able to access the service. The MultiChoice Uganda General Manager Charles Hamya said the service will create efficacy and timeliness for customers. MTN mobile money service has over 1 million registered users and 1,500 mobile money agents across the country.

 

Air Uganda gets another Bombardier CRJ-200

Air Uganda last week took delivery of its second Bombardier CRJ-200.   The plane brings the airline’s fleet to four aircraft; two CRJ-200 and two DC- 9s.  Following the acquisition of the plane, the airline has introduced a new frequency along the Entebbe-Nairobi route. The new route brings to 14, the number of flights the airline will operate from Entebbe to Nairobi on a weekly basis.  At the end of February 2010, the airline launched daily flights between Entebbe and Kigali. Air Uganda came into operation in November 2007.

 

Turkey meets East Africa for business

Turkey and the East Africa Community will hold a business forum starting Sept 28 to 30 in Daresalaam Tanzania. The meeting is aimed at preparations for the start of negotiations for a free trade and investment framework agreement. The theme for the forum is “Connect to East Africa, the heart of business opportunities”. Leading businessmen and investors from Turkey will visit the region to explore investment opportunities. Turkey is increasingly showing interest in the region and its national carrier, Turkish Airlines, recently launched flights into the region. The EAC-Turkish business forum will encourage Turkish businessmen and investors to explore possibilities of investments in the EAC countries and a target figure of 15 joint venture partnerships is expected to be realised from the forum. The event, which will also run an international exhibition, is expected to attract about 300 participants both from the region and Turkey.
