Locally registered company, I-Tel Ltd, could cause a trend shift in mobile telephony if it launches its Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network in December.

GSM is the preferred technology in mobile telephony because of its versatility and compatibility but CDMA enables higher speeds for sending voice, data, and signalling data between mobile phones and cell sites.

I-Tel, which together with eight other companies initially applied for GSM spectrum, may have inadvertently landed on a goldmine in its forced move to CDMA.

I-Tel has promised cheaper rates.
