Court of Appeal faces eviction over rent Arrears

E-mail Print PDF

The Supreme Court has been served with an eviction notice over accumulated rental arrears.

Dorcus Okalany, the secretary to the Judiciary says that the Supreme Court is indebted to the tune of 420 million shillings.

She says that the court could be embarrassed if Ministry of Finance fails to pay the rental arrears.

She says that other courts sitting in rented premises across the country have also been threatened with eviction.

Mwanga II Court in Kampala was recently evicted due to unpaid rental bills.

Kampala Central MP Elias Lukwago says that the judiciary should be adequately funded to avoid embarrassment.

Okalany says that the Judiciary is facing a challenge of working space that has forced the Chief Justice to operate at High court premises in Kampala.

She says that ordinarily the Chief Justice and judiciary should have their own premises.

She says that the Judiciary requires 120 billion shillings to construct some of the required court premises.
