Uganda signs agreement with water investors

Uganda has selected IBM and Water fund to bench mark infrastructural development in the water sector in an agreement signed between the ministry of water and environment and Waterfund and IBM on May 23.

This agreement makes Uganda the first African country to become a member of the pioneering water cost index and IBM and Waterfund the calculation agents.

 

CSO to LDCs: No deal is better than a bad one

The civil society is urging least developed countries (LDCs) to rethink signing treaties because they may get raw deals in the end.

Ambassador Nathan Irumba the CEO of Southern and East African Trade Information and Negotiations Institute (SEATINI) says the onus is on the negotiators for LDCs to ensure that they do not sign agreements that may jeopardize the interests of their countries.

 

Government to exploit opportunities in BPOs

Senior minister for Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) Ruhakana Rugunda has said the government of Uganda is positioning herself to exploit fully the opportunities that are accruing from the growing demand for outsourcing in Africa.

The minister made the remarks at a function held in Kampala on May 20 in which 12 trainers of trainees were passed and these will assist in training over 3000 youths who will benefit from the growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

 

Ban Ki-moon to visit Uganda

World Bank Group President Dr. Jim Yong Kim and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will make a historic joint visit to Africa’s Great Lakes region from May 22 to 24 in support of a recent landmark peace agreement and to push for economic development in one of the world’s most troubled regions.

A statement from the World Bank dated May 20 says Kim and Mr. Ban will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from May 22 to 23; Rwanda from May 23 – 24 and to Uganda on May 24.

 

UCC issues statement on Gen. Sejusa coverage
